Accountability

Last edited Nov 6, 2024

Accountability means a lot of really long-form and ambiguous meanings. To me, being accountable in kink boils down to three things:

The work I do should be visible and accessible by all who want to see it. It should be as-is and not partial, nor redacted.

My tone and how I respond to people online as a Host or as the LLC should be straightforward and not vague. We will try to use langauge that is easy to understand and easy to follow.

The reasons for why choices were made -- such as why a certain place was chosen for an event -- follows our own guidelines and requirements, and I am willing to talk about those things at any time

Being accountable to someone doesn't work if that person isn't willing to shout on the rooftops of your community that you've made mistakes. If they protect you and your interests, they aren't serving the community and are mostly likely not helping you grow.

We believe that when you make a mistake, you make it known. You own up to what you did, what effect it had on your community, how you're going to fix it, and how you're going to prevent this from happening again.

To accomplish this necessary level of communication, I promise to never:

  1. Tell peers to withhold knowledge about me
  2. Lock consultants of my LLC into a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) or anything similar
  3. Be the only person receiving feedback about any complaints or incidents that occur at my events

When you setup plans, like this page, to hold yourself accountable and provide transparency into your work, you have to understand what you don't understand. You have to feel what you aren't currently feeling. You have to know what you don't know. It's a hard paradox.

The way I'm trying to solve that is by putting people into positions of Read-Only access to my most critical infrastructure.

  1. The LLC Legal Docs (Google Drive share)
  2. The emails I send (FWD/BCC/Screenshots)
  3. Oversight into Event management channels on my Discord

And finally, giving them all the explicit go ahead to call me on my shit if they think I'm doing something wrong.

Please note that while we talk about giving access to my and my LLC's documents and emails, we will always take serious precaution regarding people's privacy, especially when it comes to their legal information, such as name or geolocation.

Some information like legal documents can be found on our Discord.
